Today's Chaos

So, here we are getting ready for school to start again. The last time I checked, I paid taxes for education, but apparently those taxes don't pay for Germ-X, Clorox Wipes, Dry Erase Markers, Kleenex and so on. But, after taking out a second mortgage on our house, I think we have all the supplies on the list. (the one that looked like a novel)
Our project for the day is getting the chirpers, crowers, cacklers, gobblers, buckwheaters and quackers fed. It looks like I might need to take out a third mortgage. Oy vey!

One year, after carefully selecting the right colored pencils for her social studies notebook (the ones that blended colors well) and some other good quality school supplies, my daughter came home in tears. The teacher had made them pool their supplies to "share". She was very upset and wouldn't even turn over her 96-pack of crayons. I calmed her down and we sent in a nice 16-pack and I sucked it up and bought her another set of good colored pencils. I am not opposed to having extras around for kids whose parents can't or won't provide, but pooling supplies is wrong. I was one of those kids growing up who did not always have all the greatest supplies but I would not have wanted to take someone elses. What IS the purpose of PTA anyway? Oh yeah, they are a lobby group for raising our taxes. Sorry, you knocked loose a memory. The good news is my little girl grew up, got all A's and was Valedictorian of her graduating class and is starting her third year of college-IN SPITE of attending government schools.
BTW, I read Carol's blog (only found her recently) and was stunned and saddened by the loss of your brother. God bless you and yours.
